The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) serves as an educator, consultant, clinician, and resource person. Collaborating with the Health Care Team, the CNE plans, implements, and evaluates educational programs for nursing and clinical departments. Using adult learning theories and current teaching methods, the CNE coordinates orientation programs on nursing units, offers various educational programs, and maintains staff competencies. Additionally, the CNE fosters professional development through continuing education programs and contributes to selected projects. This role also serves as a role model and resource for nursing staff.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Current nursing license in New York State
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing required or actively pursuing
  • BCLS and ACLS required; PALS preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of critical care/CTICU experience
  • National specialty certification preferred (required after 2 years in position)

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Adheres to Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors.
  2. Participates in education programs supporting Nursing Division goals.
  3. Plans, implements, and evaluates orientation for new staff, identifying and addressing learning needs.
  4. Provides educational programs based on staff needs, using adult learning principles and appropriate teaching methods.
  5. Contributes to nursing division practice standards.
  6. Participates in hospital projects as needed.
  7. Acts as an educator, consultant, clinician, and resource person within and outside the nursing division.
  8. Stays current in Joint Commission and NYS 405 State Code requirements.
  9. Participates in Performance Improvement activities.
  10. Participates in patient care to maintain expertise.
  11. Assists in problem-solving through problem identification, action plan development, and outcome evaluation.
  12. Assists in analyzing educational programs.
  13. Maintains department records.
  14. Promotes a positive image of the hospital and nursing profession..
  15. Serves as a role model.
  16. Attends mandatory hospital in-services.
  17. Maintains specialty certification.
  18. Consistent with the ANCC Magnet Model.
  19. Performs other assigned duties.
